$5 Million Kentucky Derby Contest 2004

WIN $5,000,000 without placing a bet on this year's kentuckyderby.com. Pick the exact order of the derby finish.

Latest: Wimbledon, St Averil Out Of Kentucky Derby

Derby countdown begins

The Kentucky Derby is shaping up to be a good one. The scratches of Wimbledon and St Averil reduced a full field of 20 to 18, and brightened the prospects of mudders like Imperialism, Pollard's Vision and the undefeated Smarty Jones. And to make it more interesting, there's a 50 percent chance of showers by Saturday's post time.

Wide-open field to make Run for the Roses

With 20 horses ready to race, Saturday's 130th Run for the Roses is poised to produce one of the most wide-open Kentucky Derbies in history.

For the first time since 1984 when the 20-horse limit was introduced here, there will be a full field of three-year olds loaded into the start gates Saturday afternoon chasing the first jewel of horse racing's Triple Crown.

Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel knows all about the favourite's jinx watching in agony last year as Funny Cide beat the bettor's choice Empire Maker.

Frankel is back this year and will try to break his Derby duck with 12-1 shot Master David.

While The Cliff's Edge is the slight early favourite, Smarty Jones is also popular.

The 9-2 second favourite, unbeaten in six career starts and in line for a $5 million bonus if he can add the Kentucky Derby to his list of wins, Smarty Jones could become the first undefeated Derby champion since Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew in 1997.
